Submitted to Prof. Yehezkel Landau, Dialogue in a World of Difference class, Fall 2009

Michael Walzer begins his thesis in ‘Moral Minimalism’ by presenting the marchers in Prague arguing that anyone can easily join a group calling for ‘justice and truth’ without going deeply into the particularity of their universal call. This presentation offers a clear view of compatibility between thickness and thinness. Referring to the marchers, Walzer supported ...

Marcia Hermansen stated on her article, that the Islamic concept of time is marked by a similar concept of ex nihilo creation, and the destruction of the present world. The latter description is being clarified by Fazlur Rahman on his book that Qur’an actually talks about transformation and not destruction. This means, the creation of new forms of life and new levels of being. In the concept of returning to God, ...

SPREAD THE MESSAGE

The AMMAN Message

The Amman Message started as a detailed statement released the eve of the 27th of Ramadan 1425 AH / 9th November 2004 CE by H.M. King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein in Amman, Jordan. It sought to declare what Islam is and what it is not, and what actions represent it and what actions do not. Its goal was to clarify to the modern world the true nature of Islam and the nature of true Islam.

A Common Word

The future of the world depends on peace between Muslims and Christians / The basis for this peace and understanding already exists. It is part of the very foundational principles of both faiths: love of the One God, and love of the neighbour. These principles are found over and over again in the sacred texts of Islam and Christianity. The Unity of God, the necessity of love for Him, and the necessity of love of the neighbour is thus the common ground between Islam and Christianity.

International Peacemaking Program (IPP)

The IPP in partnership with the Intersections brings students from conflicted areas around the world to study interfaith dialogue, conflict analysis and resolutions and comparative theological studies at Hartford Seminary.

In addition to their formal studies, the students are embedded in a local faith community where they experience American religious culture first hand. They also participate in programming led by Intersections International in New York City.

Hartford Seminary is a world renowned graduate theological school. Its center for the study of Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations is the oldest and leading institution in interfaith studies in United States. The Seminary was founded in 1834.

Intersections is a permanent multi-faith, multi-cultural effort of the Collegiate Churches of New York, the oldest corporation in North America, dating back to 1628.
